Exploration and exploitation licences for subsea geological storage of CO2 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, with complete history for each licence.

Exploration and exploitation licences are awarded by the Ministry of Energy. Transfer of an exploration or exploitation licence or participating interest in a licence must be approved by the ministry.

Definition

An exploration licence gives an exclusive right to exploration with a view toward assessing the potential for exploitation of a subsea geological storage of CO2 in areas comprised by the licence.

An exploitation licence gives an exclusive right to store CO2 in the area comprised by the licence.

Licenses will appear on the Factpages when they are awarded, and the license documents are signed.

In 2019 the first Exploitation Licence was awarded. In 2022 the first Exploration Licence was awarded.
