  • Wellbore history

    General
Well 6507/7-16 S was drilled to test the Canela Beta prospect west of the Heidrun Field on the Revfallet Fault Complex in the Norwegian Sea. The primary objective was to investigate the presence of hydrocarbons in the Garn Formation. The underlying Tilje and Ile formations were secondary objectives.
    Operations and results
Wildcat well 6507/7-16 S was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Island Innovator on 28 October 2019 and drilled to TD at 3238 m (3215 m TVD) m in the Early Jurassic Tilje Formation. A 9 7/8" shallow gas pilot hole was drilled from below the 30" conductor shoe at 437.5 m to 1206 m. No shallow gas was observed while drilling the pilot, but while preparing to stab into the well with the 26" bit gas and mud was observed flowing from the well. The gas was identified coming from ca 640 m, correlated to a regional unconformity with minor shallow gas accumulations in neighbouring wells. The pilot was plugged back, and the 26" section was drilled to 600 m with casing set above the shallow gas, at 592 m. Further operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 600 m, with Glydril mud from 600 m to 1203 m, with Versatec oil-based mud from 1203 m to 2957 m and with Exploradril oil-based mud from 2957 m to TD.
The Canela well discovered a gas column in the Garn, Not and Ile formations, from top Garn at 2967 m (2952 m TVD)
to the gas-oil contact at 3019 m (3001 m TVD). The oil-water contact was identified at 3023 m (3005 m TVD) proving a 4 m oil leg. Oil shows in the form of stain, odour, and direct and cut fluorescence were described down to 3054 m. No shows were recorded above the hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir.
Two cores were cut in succession from 2979 m to 3087 m in the Garn, Not and Ile formations. MDT fluid samples were taken at 2980,5 m (gas), 3014 m (Gas), 3021 m (oil), and 3031 m (water).
The well was permanently abandoned on 18 December 2019 as an oil and gas discovery.
    Testing
No drill stem test was performed.
