  • Wellbore history

    General
Well 7220/5-3 was drilled to test the Skruis prospect on the Polhem Sub-platform 12 kilometres north of the 7220/8-1 Skrugard discovery in the Barents Sea. The primary objective was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Early-Middle Jurassic Age (the Stø and Nordmela formations). The secondary objective was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Early Jurassic Age (the Tubåen Formation).
    Operations and results
Wildcat well 7220/5-3 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Songa Enabler on 27 September 2018 and drilled to TD at 1782 m in the Late Triassic Fruholmen Formation. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis sweeps down to 493 m, with KCl/Polymer/GEM mud from 493 to 1030 m, and with Enviromul oil-based mud from 1030 m to TD.
Top Stø Formation was encountered at 1413 m and contained a total oil column of about 35 m, 30 m of which was effective reservoir in sandstone with moderate to good reservoir quality. The oil/water contact was encountered at 1449 m, and good oil shows down to 1462 m, described with direct and cut fluorescence and light brown staining. The Stø Formation has about 30 meters of water-bearing sandstone below the oil/water contact, with mainly good reservoir properties. The Nordmela Formation has water-bearing sandstone layers totalling more than 100 meters with moderate to good reservoir quality. In the Tubåen Formation, the sandstone layers have moderate to good reservoir properties.
No shows are reported outside of the Stø and Nordmela reservoir.
One 72.4 m long core was cut from 1424 to 1496 m in the Stø and Nordmela formations. MDT fluid samples were taken at 1414.2 m (oil), 1426 m (oil), 1448 m (oil), and 1459 m (water).
The well was permanently abandoned on 26 October 2018 as an oil discovery.
    Testing
No drill stem test was performed.
