GeneralWell 30/11-12 S was drilled to test the Askja SE prospect on the eastern flank of the Fensal Sub-basin in the North Sea. The well is situated two kilometres south of the 30/11-9 A (Askja East) discovery, and about 35 km southwest of the Oseberg Sør facility. The primary objective was to prove petroleum in three sandstone layers in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Tarbert formation).Operations and resultsWildcat well 30/11-12 S was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Songa Delta on 8 April 2016 and drilled to TD at 3700 m in the Middle Jurassic Ness Formation. No significant problem was encountered in the operations. The well was drilled with Seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1324 m and with XP07 oil based mud from 1324 m to TD.The Tarbert Formation was encountered at 3321.5 m (3319.5 m TVD). It was oil bearing from top to a down-to contact at ca 3356 m (3354 m TVD) based on pressure gradients and logs. Oil was sampled also at 3420 m (3418 m), in the top of a deeper Tarbert sandstone unit. MDT pressure points showed a water gradient in this sandstone. Oil shows were described in the hydrocarbon-bearing upper Tarbert sandstone from 3328 to 3360 m. These were the only oil shows recorded in the well.No cores were cut. MDT fluid samples were taken at 3336.4 m (oil), 3420.0 m (oil with trace water and ca 20% OBM contamination), and 3458.5 m (water with trace oil).The well was permanently abandoned on 4 May 2016 as an oil discovery.TestingNo drill stem test was performed. -
