    SCIENTIFIC (drilling according to Law of Scientific research and exploration),
    STRATIGRAPHIC (driling according to Law of Petroleum activities §2-1).
    APPRAISAL
    Status
    Status for the wellbore. Legal values are:

    BLOWOUT: A blowout has occurred in the well.
    CLOSED: A development wellbore that has been closed in a shorter or longer periode. Also applies to development wellbores where drilling is completed, but production/injection has not yet been reported.
    DRILLING: The well is in the drilling phase - can be active drilling, logging, testing or plugging,
    JUNKED: The drilling operation has been terminated due to technical problems.
    P&A: Exploration: The well is plugged and abandoned, and can not be reentered for further use. Development wells: The production/injection from/to the well is stopped and the well is plugged. The wellhead is removed or else made unavailable for further well operations.
    PLUGGED: The wellbore has been plugged, but the upper parts of the wellbore can be re-used. A sidetrack might be drilled at a later stage.
    PRODUCING: It was produced from the wellbore at the time of the operators last monthly report to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate.
    INJECTING: It was injected to the wellbore at the time of the operators last monthly report to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate.
    PREDRILLED: The upper part of the well has been drilled, usually as part of a batch-drilling campaign covering several wellbores.
    RE-CLASS TO DEV: Exploration wellbore that is reclassified to a development wellbore.
    RE-CLASS TO TEST: Exploration wellbore that is reclassified to test production.
    SUSPENDED: The drilling operation in the wellbore has been temporarily stopped. The current plan is to continue drilling later on.

    Legal values:
    DRY, SHOWS (trace amounts of hydrocarbons), GAS, GAS/CONDENSATE, OIL or OIL/GAS.
    SHOWS (GAS SHOWS, OIL SHOWS or OIL/GAS SHOWS) are detected as fluorescent cut (organic extract), petroleum odour, or visual stain on cuttings or cores, or as increased gas reading on the mud-loggers gas detection equipment.

    For development wellbores, type of produced/injected fluid.

  • Wellbore history

    General
    Well 25/8-22 S was drilled to appraise the Lower Statfjord and Skagerrak Formation Iving oil discoveries made in well 25/8-19 S. The primary objective was to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential in the Skagerrak Formation. Secondary objectives were to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential in the Early Jurassic Statfjord Group, the Basement, and the Paleocene Heimdal and Balder formations.
    Operations and results
    Appraisal well 25/8-22 S was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Transocean Barents on 21 June 2021 and drilled to TD at 2622 m (2555 m TVD) m in Basement rock. The well is vertical down to 1300 m, building to a ca 20 sail angle from ca 1700 m to TD. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1040 m and with Innovert oil-based mud from 1040 m to TD.
    The well encountered a 20-metre gas column over a 31-metre oil column in sandstones of moderate to good reservoir quality in the Skagerrak Formation. Pressure data suggests communication in the Skagerrak reservoir between all wells in the discovery. The reservoir quality in the lowermost part of the Skagerrak Formation was not sufficient to confirm mobile petroleum. Gas-Oil contact was established in Skagerrak Formation at 2478.5 m (2427.7 m TVD). The oil/water contact was not encountered.
    A 2-metre oil column was encountered in sandstone of good to very good reservoir quality in the lower part of the Statfjord Group, and this has been interpreted to be a separate accumulation to 25/8-19 S (Iving). The oil/water contact was encountered at 2261.7 m (2225.5 m TVD). Well 25/8-22 S also encountered oil in thin sandstones in the upper part of the Statfjord Group (2 metres) and in the Heimdal Formation (3 metres). The Basement was tight, and hydrocarbons could not be confirmed apart from some weak shows in the upper few meters.
    The first oil show in the well was recorded at 1975 m to 2006 m (dull yellow-white cut). The Statfjord Group had oil shows in the interval 2258 to 2281 m (weak yellow to bluish cut), and the Skagerrak had shows in the interval 2371 to 2593 m (direct and cut fluorescence, occasionally with faint HC odour).
    No cores were cut. RDT fluid samples were taken in the Statfjord Group at 2115.53 m (oil), 2259.5 m (oil), and 2305.2 m (water), and in the Skagerrak Formation at 2478.64 m (gas) and 2501.43 m (oil).
    The well was permanently abandoned on 23 July 2021 as an oil and gas appraisal.
