Wellbore history
"Times New Roman",serif'>GeneralThe 6507/4-3S exploration well is located on the Dønna Terrace in the Norwegian Sea. The target for the well was the Peder prospect which was defined by an amplitude anomaly in the Cretaceous Intra Lange Formation. The well location was placed just inside a subtle 4-way-dip closure, but the pre-drill prospect model premised also presence of a stratigraphic trap element to fill the entire pre-drill amplitude prospect.Operations and resultsThe well was spud 28th April 2022 with the semi-submersible Transocean Norge rig in approximately 435 meter water depth as a slightly deviated S-shaped well. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,988 m MD RKB / 3,947 m TVD RKB. The target came in close to prognosis (~2 m TVD shallow). After initial signs of hydrocarbons in the reservoir, heads-up coring was conducted, followed by pre-defined success scope wireline logging, before the well was permanently plugged and abandoned after 48 days of operations. The well encountered only a 0.5 m Intra Lange Formation pay interval within the pre-defined small 4- way-dip closure, with a residual hydrocarbon column in the rest of the sandstone interval. This outcome suggests lack of an effective stratigraphic trap element but indicates potential presence of a larger trap in the past. Although the well did encounter gas, and was classified as a discovery, the outcome was risked as a failure case in the pre-drill evaluation. In addition to the trap failure, reservoir quality was poorer than predicted pre-drill. Although the total porosity was within the modelled range, NMR data and petrographic analysis indicate a bimodal distribution of porosity, with a lot of the pore space being micro-porosity. Permeability was lower than predicted, and reservoir quality is also a failure according to the pre-drill prospect model. The well was classified as a minor gas discovery.Data aquisitionTwo conventional cores were cut continuously in the well, covering a total of 90.4 m. The first core was cut from 3761.5 to 3797.5 m, with a length of 36.0 m (100.6 % recovery). The second core was cut from 3797.8 to 3852 m, and was 54.2 m (100.0 % recovery). Due to slight expansion of the cores as they came to surface, the total cored length was 90.9 m.The upper core comprises the K56 Sandstone Member, mainly consisting of facies association with proximal fan high density turbidites and proximal fan, finer tractional flow. The deeper core consists of the heterolithic unit and mudstones below. No sidewall coring runs were performed. Wet gas was sampled in an MDT test in the upper 1 meter sand of the K56 sequence (at 3,748.0 m MD / 3,707.4 m TVD RKB) and the well was subsequently classified as a minor gas discovery.Water was sampled from a deeper level at 3,769.7 m MD / 3,729.1 m TVD RKB, however due to tight formation no contacts could be established. The well is permanently plugged and abandoned on 13th June 2022. -
